Techau’s most recent service as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa came to an abrupt close last month with U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ call for the nationwide resignations of 46 U.S. Attorneys. Following his appointment by President Obama, Techau cultivated a formidable reputation in healthcare and financial services regulation, cyber security and risk management, which he now brings to Scheldrup Blades’ litigation, internal investigation and crisis management work.
Scheldrup Blades delivers litigation defense and other services across a range of practice areas including workers’ compensation, employment and nursing home law, government and municipality defense, transportation, real estate and more. The firm’s 15 attorneys practice law in state and federal venues across the Midwest from offices in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska..
"Kevin’s litigation experience and knowledge of government regulation, political operations, criminal law and civil enforcements make him an extremely powerful advocate for Scheldrup Blades clients,” said Scheldrup Blades president Kent Smith. “We’re thrilled to have Kevin’s 30 years of public service available to our clients as they engage government agencies concerning discrete issues and broader policy objectives.”
In addition to serving as U.S. Attorney, Techau’s public career includes leadership of the Iowa Department of Public Safety and Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. He served as a public defender in federal courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and staff judge advocate with the Iowa Air National Guard. His private practice included service as Associate General Counsel, American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company and as a trial attorney with Grefe & Sidney.
“Scheldrup Blades’ expansion of government related litigation and investigations practice recognizes that more and more companies, municipalities and county governments need quality legal counsel in both preventing and responding to government investigations, compliance challenges due to new and complex statutes and regulations,” said Techau. “I look forward to contributing to Scheldrup Blades’ continued success built on an outstanding reputation for quality legal representation."
